West Coast Sikh Youth Alliance celebrates young minds in Mission

According to Mission City Record “ The West Coast Sikh Youth Alliance (WCSYA ) celebrated its 30th annual Young Minds United event in Mission earlier this month.

Over 300 gathered at the Khalsa Centre Miracle Valley for the celebration.

"The leadership demonstrated by our youth at this event truly shows that the future is bright," said Sundeep Kaur, the camp director. "Their passion, commitment, and vision for a more inclusive and united community give us all hope and confidence that the next generation is ready to lead with strength and compassion."

According to a statement, Mission residents joined the open house and engaged in meaningful dialogue to contribute to ongoing efforts to build a stronger, more inclusive community.

Youth were engaged in conversations about various topics such as anti-racism within the Sikh diaspora community, multiculturalism, Sikh activism post-1947, and learning about Canadian immigrants.

This event highlighted the importance of unity and the power of collective action in fostering mutual understanding and support.  The BC Museum South Asian Community Project was discussed with participants in a large group and small discussion group format.

Coun. Ken Herar attended the event and said he’s always enjoyed visits to the Khalsa Centre.

“There are so many things that impress me with the Khalsa Centre. The one things that always comes to mind before I even attended the centre I saw that the Khalsa Centre adopted a block to keep our local streets clean. That always impressed me and shows the commitment of the centre locally as a  community builder,” Herar said.
