Southall's Sikh community will host a procession through the town which could be the biggest gathering of Sikhs in the UK so far this century.
An estimated 50,000 Sikhs will join the annual Southall Nagar Kirtan, which will celebrate the 550th anniversary if the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth.
The Guru is the founder of the Sikh religion and the most holy figure in Sikhism. His birth falls on November 12, but a procession on Sunday (November 3) will celebrate the birth in Southall.
A spokesman for the Havelock Road Gurdwara, which has organised the event, said that the last procession of this scale was held in 1999. The Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall in Havelock Road is the largest Gurdwara in Europe.
Some Sikh devotees will travel to Southall from different countries to join the procession. Mayor of London Sadiq Khan is also expected to join the event.
As well as the Nagar Kirtan, which roughly translates to neighbourhood hymn-singing, the procession will beat drums and display gatka, a Sikh martial art.
The celebration will be topped off with a langer, serving food to the local community completely without charge.
