Sikh museum to come up in Agra

According to Times of India “ A museum dedicated to the Sikh religion will soon be coming up in Agra. The museum, dedicated to Guru Nanak on his 550th birth anniversary, will highlight the cultural, historical and art associated with Sikhism and seek to educate the younger generation about the history of the religion.
RS Bagga, president of Lucknow Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, told TOI that the project will be executed by the Centre and is likely to come up on an area of 5 acre. “If government land is acquired then the cost of the project will be Rs 10 crore and if private land is acquired, Rs 5 crore will be spent. The proposal was floated by our committee during the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak in November 2019 and chief minister Yogi Adityanath agreed to it immediately,” he said.
At a meeting chaired by principal secretary culture Jitendra Kumar recently, Lucknow was among the two cities being considered for the project but Agra won due to its proximity to both the state and national capital. Bagga said Agra was also important as Guru Teg Bahadur and his three aides had been arrested by Aurangzeb from the city and it is an important place of pilgrimage for Sikhs.
The museum and research centre will focus on generating awareness about the Sikh religion and highlighting art and craft, culture and history associated with it. Part of the project would be to identify contribution of Sikh films, music, art, science to India, identification of important sites linked with Sikhism and their beautification and promotion
