According to Times of India “ Altogether 39 Sikh delegates from 10 countries visited the Takhat Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib Gurdwara in Patna City on Thursday as part of a religious tour. They will leave for Amritsar on Friday and travel to Maharashtra later this week.
Christened ‘Takhat Darshan Yatra’, the tour is an initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs. It is being hosted by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) to mark ‘Prakash Parv’, the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism.
The delegates belong to countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Canada, Thailand, Australia, Netherlands, South Africa, Singapore and Italy. They attended a seminar on the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev in New Delhi on Wednesday and reached Patna on Thursday. They will visit the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Friday and leave for Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib at Nanded in Maharashtra on Saturday. They will finally return to Delhi from where they began their journey.
“The pilgrimage has been organized to spread the message of Guru Nanak Dev on the occasion of his 550th birth anniversary,” said Manjit Singh Rai, who is coordinating the yatra.
Meanwhile, the delegates were thrilled after visiting the Patna City gurdwara and thanked the government for giving them this opportunity. “This religious tour is an emotional experience. We have learned the importance of equality and humanity, which are the main teachings of Sikhism,” Varinder Singh Khera, a delegate from London, told this newspaper.
