Resolution to set up Khalsa University

According to Tribune India "Hundreds of old students of Khalsa College recalled their rich memories relating to the time spent at the historic institution during the annual Alumni Meet, 2015, here today. The old Khalsas paid tributes to their alma mater, vowing to protect its heritage and status as they called for building a new Khalsa University (KU). The alumnus, settled across the world, arrived here after a long gap and shared age-old memories. A resolution was passed for maintaining the autonomous status of Khalsa College and setting up of a separate Khalsa University by the management. The students enthralled the audience with the folk songs, traditional orchestra and Jhoomer dance on the occasion. Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) president Satyajit Singh Majithia said it was the dream of college’s founders in 1892 to set up a university. He said, “With the support of one and all we will set up a separate university in the coming days.” He along with KCGC honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina and Principal, Dr Mehal Singh, honoured old students of the college. The power point presentation depicting the history of the college and its sister organisations were appreciated by all presetn. In his speech, Chhina said there were efforts to rope in ex- students from various foreign countries and organise the next meet on the foundation day of the KCGC, which established the college in 1892. The alumni in their addresses hailed the KCA as an institution of learning. They said they achieved heights after getting education from Khalsa College. They also vowed to help the institution to achieve more academic and heritage excellence. Dr Mehal Singh said the objective of the meet was to provide an opportunity to alumni to share their sweet memories relating their time spent at college. — TNS
