Hundreds enjoy Sikh Mela in Huddersfield

According to Examiner "A celebration all things Sikh took place at the community’s sixth annual Mela in Huddersfield.
It was held at Yorkshire Lions’ Warrenside base in Deighton on Sunday.
The Mela – Sanskrit for ‘fair’ – included a gatka (sword fighting) demonstration, turban tying contest and live music from Sikh artists including Birmingham bhangra singer-songwriter Sukshinder Shinda. Other highlights at the event, included an American SWAT team demo, a strongman contest, birds of prey show, Thai boxing and a tug-of-war.
There were also many games and sports for children and for families.
The alcohol-free and meat-free fair was aimed at raising cash for a memorial statue to the thousands of Sikhs who died fighting for the British Empire in both world wars."
