Experts to survey Gurdwara Guru Nanak Math in Nepal
According to the Times of India "Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust has sent a team of experts for a survey of Gurdwara Guru Nanak Math in Kathmandu, ahead of chalking out a master plan for developing the holy place and submit a Rs 100-crore plan to the Nepal government on November 6.Talking to TOI on Sunday, trust's managing trustee S P S Oberoi said that the team would be stationed in Kathmandu for three days and make technical assessment of the area before starting the developmental work in November.Oberoi said that the trust would celebrate the birth anniversary of Sikh's first master Guru Nanak Dev in Gurdwara Guru Nanak Math on November 6. The trust had carried out karsewa (voluntary service) of historical khui (well) earlier. He said that the Nepal government had given permission to carry out work on the 35-kanal gurdwara land, which is still registered in the name of Guru Nanak Dev. "We have prepared a master plan under which a hospital, a sarai and an orphanage would be constructed besides other developmental works," he said adding that senior architect Surinder Singh would accompany him during his visit to the gurdwara in November. First Sikh master Guru Nanak Dev had visited Kathmandu in 1516 AD during his third Udasi (journey). He had stayed first on the banks of Bishnumati river and began sangat for sadhus. The then king of Nepal, Jaya Jagat Malia, had donated land in the name of Guru Nanak. Oberoi said the Gurdwara houses a handwritten saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, a saroop in Hindi and another in Gurmukhi."
