Sikh varsity to set up AstroTurf

According to Tribune  "An AstroTurf will be laid on the compound of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, at a cost of Rupees 5 crore (1,018,745.02 US dollars). This would make available international-level facilities to local sportspersons, particularly from the hockey academy (both junior and senior wings). A decision in this regard was taken in a meeting of the university syndicate today.
University VC Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia told media persons said 26 girls had been selected for the junior wing of the hockey academy. Players for the senior wing would be selected soon. Dronacharya awardee Baldev Singh would be the chief coach of the academy. Baldev has groomed hundreds of hockey players globally.
The university was also trying to popularize athletics, basketball, volleyball, tennis, handball, football, gatka, archery, fencing and cricket among students.
The university syndicate also approved the naming of university departments and schools after the names of the persons contributing Rupees 5 crore (1,018,745.02 US dollars) to Rupees 10 crore ( 2,332,627.85 US dollars) for varsity buildings. It was also decided to start Master’s courses in journalism and mass communication, library and information science and psychology from the current academic session."
